It is really appreciable that the government is seriously considering imposing a ban on private coaching outside the classroom by school & college teachers. We hope that the High Court directive in this respect will be implemented without further delay. It is a common allegation against the teachers that most of them are interested in involving themselves in private tuition. But I think this is a wrong perception about the teachers. Mostly English and mathematics teachers and some science teachers are involved in private coaching. It is said that the teachers do not teach properly in the classroom. But the fact is that the students knock at the doors of the teachers who teach properly and have capability of attractive teaching in the classroom.

A student never goes for private tuition to the teacher who does not teach properly in the classroom. Another complaint against the teachers is that most of them are under-qualified. How can we expect talented and brilliant people in the teaching profession if they are not provided with attractive salary and social status? Not only that a teacher should not live a life less standard than his/her neighboring and equivalent colleagues serving in other departments. My friend who is a doctor, is now an owner of a multistory building, where as I have no ability to buy a hut in a town. That’s because I am a teacher.

To sum up, it may be mentioned here that private coaching/tuition is not at all a matter of pleasure. No teacher will involve himself in this if he is provided with reasonable salary and status.
